Every year I look forward to the spring return of the beautiful sandhill cranes to the wildlife habitat adjacent to my studio. Probably because my encounters with them aren't as frequent as I would like, this crane showed a new look to me. The ruffled feathers may have represented a defensive posture--looking "tough"--as a reaction to my presence, or maybe she just got out of bed, out of the shower, or is just having a bad-feather day. Most likely, they all do this all the time and I'm the one that just doesn't get out enough!
